Adrian Northover-Smith

Head of Corporate Public Affairs


Adrian joined Sony in June 1993 and worked for Television Marketing Europe. He held positions in Product Planning, looking after Northern, Southern and Eastern Europe. He then launched the first Sony range of LCD rear projection TVs before moving back to product planning to develop the UK’s first Integrated Digital TV (idTV) products.

Adrian then moved across to the Digital Media Europe team, who made set top boxes for Sky, Canal+ and ITV digital, before moving to Sony UK sales company in June 2000. He started as the Digital TV product manager before moving into the role of Digital Development manager for both the TV and Home Video groups. This gave him much exposure to HD and Blu-ray, and he ran the Sky-Sony HD project.

In 2007, Adrian was appointed Head of Products and Services development – the group responsible in the UK for creating the ‘environment’ in which Sony could launch the Reader.

In his role today as Head of Corporate Public Affairs, Adrian represents Sony UK at various industry associations including Intellect and the Digital Television Group. He also acts as the interface between Sony UK, Government, Broadcasters and Trade associations.

Adrian has interfaced with all the industry bodies and government departments with regard to Digital Switchover and was Sony’s representative in the HD for All campaign – which successfully lobbied government to get HD onto the Freeview platform.

Most recently, Adrian has become involved in the communication of Sony’s environmental credentials, both internally and externally.
