Simon Hughes is the Liberal Democrat Spokesman for Energy and Climate Change. He is the longest serving member of the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet. Simon has roots in England, Wales and Scotland and studied trained and worked in Belgium and France before returning London to work as a human rights lawyer in 1977. Simon joined the Liberal Party in 1971 inspired by the campaigns for justice in South Africa and Palestine. He was elected to Parliament as the youngest opposition MP in 1983 on a record swing of 51% and has been re-elected for his North Southwark and Bermondsey constituency on six further occasions.
